I came across a group of photograph’s picturing the work of Makoto Azuma who is inspired by the Japanese tradition of “Ikebana” - the art of flower arranging.
Makoto composes flowers a in a beautiful, sumptuous and surprising way that doesn’t naturally occur in the realm of nature, this became the starting point for 1000 Autumns.
I began experimenting with different flowers, applying varnishes and resin, and looking at the way the petals distorted and changed over a period of time. I realised that I wanted my flower to feel like it was in a continuous cycle of decay and rejuvenation, taking on a timeless quality that points to all seasons.
1000 Autumns is hand carved in 18 carat gold featuring a fancy pink sapphire centre stone surrounded by a selection of pavé set purple sapphires and pink diamonds.
